Soy Candles and Aromatherapy

In one form or other we use aromas in some aspects of our everyday lives, whether they’re infused into our skincare products, food etc. However the difference between the beneficial and the fragrance versions of these makes a huge difference on the quality, texture and smell of these products.

Aromatherapy is the use of natural origins of healing and wellness through plant extracts and essential oils. For example organic/high end candles have become all the rage in recent years, since the rediscovery of essential oils.

The history of healing aroma’s and aromatherapy runs deep, dating all the way back to thousands of years of usage by the Egyptians and the Chinese in the early ages and now expanding into many more cultures.

Getting started on this journey, is very simple. The difference between healthy aroma and aroma used for scents is the ingredients used. For example; paraffin and soya. Paraffin is a synthetic used as the base of a candle, it’s not healthy for you or the environment but is used widely because it’s cheap. Soy however is toxin free therefore contains absolutely no pollutants or carcinogens which results in a cleaner burning process. Soy bean candles also last up to 50% more than paraffin, so although soy candles are a little more expensive, not to mention in the long run they’ll be better value for your money! Plus soy based candles are eco-friendly and do not release toxins/carcinogens into the environment, unlike paraffin candles as they contain soot and petroleum. Just like everything else in the world, there’s good and bad, cheap and expensive and more often than not you get what you pay for and I think paying a bit extra for a healthier and more natural candle will make you much happier also, knowing that you’re promoting healthier living, better environmental choices and you’ll buy much less of these candles than you would the conventional (cheap) ones because they last longer.

The soya candles are made from a hydrogenated form of soybean oil. The wax is melted and mixed with essential oils and a specialised dye to color the wax. After everything has been mixed in, it is then poured into the desired container and left to set. The wick is added at the very end once the wax has cooled and voila! It’s ready to use.

Natural is the way to go, I promise you won’t regret it.
